The Chairman of Nigerdock, Anwar Jarmakani, has called for the end of monopoly in the oil & gas logistics describing it as a threat to the sector.
Jarmakani disclosed this when he hosted the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Bala Usman who paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerdock Snake Island Free Zone in Lagos, recently.
The Nigerdock MD further accused Intels Logistics based in Onne, Rivers state of promoting monopoly. He also said the company has sabotaged his company in the logistics business.
“In a two-year process, we were awarded a project by Shell, Chevron and ExxonMobil in order to reduce their costs. Intels raised hell on earth and killed the project with every possible accusation; they brought us to a standstill,” he said.
Responding, Ms Bala Usman said the NPA would in the coming weeks take a critical look at existing legislation to determine whether any monopoly currently exists.
She further stressed that she would ensure a level playing field for all operators and promote healthy competition. “We will look to determine the area we will provide support for all. Within the next few months, we will look at all the enabling legislation to determine whether any monopoly exists or not. We will ensure that there is effective regulation that is transparent, that we all can understand. We will ensure that no organisation entrenches monopoly that can affect the development of Nigeria as a whole.’’
